Free Trial FAQ

  1. What are the terms and conditions of the Free Trial? The Free Trial is available to any person who fills out the request form and meets the eligibility requirements for the trial, which are simply that you or your organization must not have a free trial or paid subscription for SmartCompany already in effect at any time during the free trial period.
  2. Do I have to pay in advance or give you credit card information? No. We will only collect payment information and payment if you decide to purchase a subscription during or after the trial. Such a request must be initiated by you. If your trial concludes and you do not want to subscribe, you will simply lose access to your trial account with no further obligation.
  3. Do I have to give you any additional information? If you proceed with the trial, you will be asked to provide information related to the trial subscription, including the names and email addresses of up to 4 other users, the time zone(s) your users are in, and other such administrative information. This information is used by the SmartCompany application only and is not shared with anyone. If you decide to subscribe, we will collect billing information at that time.
  4. Are the features available in the trial the same as those in your products? Yes. The trial contains all the features available in the edition you choose for the trial (Solo, Sales, or Corporate). At the conclusion of your trial, you can purchase a subscription to any of the three editions, regardless of which one you chose for the trial. If you purchase a simpler edition than the one you tried, the data you entered into the inaccessible portions of the product will remain on our servers, but will be unavailable to you unless you subsequently upgrade to a more powerful edition, at which time the appropriate data will become visible to you again.
  5. Can I convert my existing contact data? Absolutely. Our powerful Import Wizard provides a one-button import capability for data from products such as ACT!, GoldMine, Outlook, and Salesforce.com. If your existing data is in one of these systems, you can import it into SmartCompany in less than 10 minutes by following the step-by-step instructions in the Wizard.
  6. What happens to my data after the trial is over? We will keep your data on our servers for 30 days after your trial period ends. If you purchase a subscription within this 30-day period, you will simply regain access to the data you entered during the trial, with no re-keying necessary. If you do not purchase a subscription, your data will be automatically and permanently deleted from our servers at the end of the 30-day period. If you would like your data deleted sooner, you can send a request to admin@smartcompany.net and we will process your request within 24 hours of receiving it.

  8. Will the data I enter into SmartCompany be secure? Absolutely. Your data will be available only to you and to those in your organization to whom you provide access. SmartCompany employees are strictly forbidden to view customer data without prior written permission from the customer (usually in a troubleshooting situation). In addition, we never under any circumstances share your data with any third parties for any reason. Finally, our servers are housed in a state-of-the-art, dedicated hosting facility with extensive physical security measures in place, including biometric hand scanners, magnetic card readers, 24x7x365 camera surveillance, and chemical fire protection. Your data is probably more secure at our facility than it would be in your office or home.
  9. Will you install anything on my computer? Only if you download SmartCompany Toolbar. SmartCompany itself is 100% Web-based and requires no software on your computer beyond your Web browser. SmartCompany Toolbar is a plugin for Internet Explorer that must be installed on your computer to function. We never install adware, spyware, or any other software that runs without your knowledge and consent.
  10. Will anyone contact me? A few days after submitting your request for a free trial, you will be contacted by a SmartCompany customer service representative who will answer any questions you might have and give you some tips for making the most of your trial. This person will become your primary SmartCompany contact during the trial and will provide you with free telephone and email support during your trial period.
